And of course was wondering if there is a recommended store for good, reasonably priced, opal jewelry.
Was also wondering if there was any truth to the comment buried in the forum about "closer you get to OZ, the more expensive the Opals".
Thanks in advance for the advice!

Hi Skip, are you coming to sydney And if so when? I have some nice boulder opal getting set by my jeweller in 18k gold. Mostly with gem colors and all under $500 each. If your interested let me know. Also have a huge range of yowah, koroit, and boulder set in sterling silver.

You will find that opals are reasonably priced in Australia. You will get better value for money around the fields than the big retail shops. Actually if you want to see some overpriced opal you should check ebay AU V USA check the colors and prices of comparable pieces.

Unfortunately, I will be city-locked, so will be at the mercy of the town stores. On a Sydney forum, someone suggested I go to "Flame Opals" or "Hardy's", and be sure they are solid Opals, vs. doubles.
Apparently they are reputable jewelry stores. Unless you or anyone else has any suggestions!

I dont know the stores. I stay well away from retail stores since the time I found one of my opals that I received $300 for ( a fair price) Set into a piece of 9 carat gold and selling for $2500 as Lightning ridge opal. (It was Andamooka opal. )
