Member Meetings

The American Opal Society monthly meetings are held every third Thursday of the month. Social time starts and 6:30pm and the General meeting is called to order at 7pm. Guests are always welcome.

Meetings are held at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center, located at 250 E. Center St., Anaheim, CA 92805.

Meetings start with a social half-hour, then a business session, followed by a coffee/social break, and then our evening's speaker. Some of our recent topics include:

  • Opal Mining in Coober Pedy
  • Gem carving
  • Gold casting
  • Intarsia

Once a year we hold the Opal & Gem Show, where dealers from around the world sell opal rough, finished stones, jewelry, gems, and supplies. In addition, a number of symposia are held.

The Society maintains an extensive library of books, video tapes of speakers such as opal expert Len Cram, and various newsletters and journals, which are all available for loan to members at each meeting.
